1838 – The Times of India, the world’s largest circulated English language daily broadsheet newspaper is founded as The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce.

1951 – Tony Bennett’s Cold, Cold Heart hits #1

1954 – The first Godzilla film is released and marks the first appearance of the character of the same name.

1956 – Elvis Presley’s Love Me Tender hits #1

1957 – Sputnik program: The Soviet Union launches Sputnik 2. On board is the first animal to enter orbit, a dog named Laika.

1990 – After being featured prominently in the smash hit film Ghost, The Righteous Brothers’ version of Unchained Melody returns to the top of the UK charts after 25 years.
